Describe the brief from the client
The AWNY was founded in 1912 as the first women's association in the communications industry. Its mission has been to provide a forum for professional growth and to promote philanthropic endeavours. The client felt the old logo was out of step with its mission and asked us to create a new brand identity for the organisation.
Describe the challenges and key objectives
Objective: create a brand identity that communicates the mission of Advertising Women of New York (AWNY) in a more iconic manner.
Audience: Advertising professionals
Describe how you arrived at the final design
We sought to craft a mark that conveyed the idea of growth and resonance in a vibrant way. We chose a pattern that imitated the signals radiating from a broadcast tower, a graphic expression commonly associated with mass communication. The resulting identity dances between a modernist style and expressive one: rigid and formally constructed, while at the same time colourful and playful.
Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
It only took one presentation for the organisation’s leaders to fall in love with the identity. Public response has been equally enthusiastic.
