BRIEF
Color is the new Italic.
Color is the new Bold.
Are typographers and type designers really black-and-white thinkers? Are they so conservative as to think that the text you see everywhere, even on your laptop, tablet, or mobile phone, should always be black? Traditionally, texts in manuscripts were written in black, but this is probably because of the technical limitations of Gutenberg’s groundbreaking invention. Novo Typo is pushing to change this accepted norm. With text and design by an Amsterdam-based type foundry and graphic design studio, and a preface by Gerard Unger, this book celebrates the functionality and decoration of letters.
IDEA
104 p, offset printed in 3 pms colors (red-yellow-blue), 8 pages printed in traditional letterpress 2 colors (red-blue), 18 x 25 cm, hardcover, English language, limited edition of 750 copies. All used typefaces (Ziza designed by Novo Typo) were especially designed for this publication. For the letterpress pages we designed a special typeface which was traditionally casted in lead.
