Synopsis:
"WITH" is a bookazine made for "Connecting Spaces Hong Kong - Zurich", a platform for transcultural collaboration initiated by the Zurich University of the Arts. For the launch of the bookazine I made a print and poster campaign that illustrates collaboration between cultures, art forms and disciplines.
With, a bookazine on collaboration between cultures, art forms and disciplines.
It’s a publication brimming with layers of personality and collaboration, creating an aesthetic that is part scrap book, part fine art. Each of the different collaborations in “WITH” are visualized in a myriad of ways. The soft covered book printed on cyclus paper with an open stitched spine takes on a flexible form. The diversity of projects among the pages showcases individual voices throughout the book and represent a fuse of collaboration with colourful edges. The projects are connected by a unified visual language that takes into consideration individual qualities through the use of an overlap image effect that follows a strict grid. Breaking in on every page, this procedure aims to create an experimental system that is able to generate multiple layouts from what appears to be an organized mess.
The visual language, manifests a fine line between a book and a magazine, celebrating its diversity, not only in the layout, but in the multiple uses of different typefaces, from sans serif, serif, monospace, display, alongside highlighted text in comic bubbles.
