Notes: Unitaid is one of the world’s key players in the health sector. Its mission is to promote innovation to create accessible medical treatments and reduce mortality. To increase financing, Unitaid must speak clearly about complex scientific matters and be pragmatic and reliable.
Their challenge involves effective communication of the complexities of diseases affecting the world and simple explanation of the role innovation plays in the development of low-cost medicines. Unitaid needs to be convincing in approaching those institutions and private firms capable of supply consistent financing.
Its new visual identity responds to this need. With a unique and strong illustrative style, diversified icon sets and an extraordinary variety of graphic elements, Unitaid has been able to stand out on the crowded NGO landscape, obtaining concrete results in terms of financing.
We built the Unitaid visual identity around a unique illustrative style. We moved away from the photographic style typical of the sector and developed an illustrative style that is unique, strong and impactful, comprising just a few colours, icons and characters, to create an engaging storytelling. The colour palette uses just a few, evocative colours. White, combined with two blue tones, recalling the UN structure to which Unitaid belongs and transmitting a sense of strength and trust. Red, in a dark shade, associated with HIV/AIDS and emergencies in general. Icons and geometric elements represent the scientific aspect while the use of human figures emphasises the effect Unitaid has on people. This allows Unitaid to speak with high-level players in an authoritative but warm and engaging way.
