Entry Summary
This past year, the United States experienced a devastating number of natural disasters. From Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria which affected much of the South, to tornadoes in the Midwest, to wildfires in California. During these emergencies, Verizon worked while other networks crumbled under the pressure of mass amounts of simultaneous calls. Which is why more First Responders relied on it than any other network.

Unfortunately, these First Responders often don’t get the thanks they deserve. In the shock and trauma of disasters and rescues, survivors often don’t have a chance to say thank you. And tracking First Responders down later can be nearly impossible for survivors. We wanted to give First Responders the thanks they deserve by connecting them with those who have the most gratitude: the people they rescued.

Brief Explanation
Lieutenant Jack Ray saved Cedricka Carver from a fire in Illinois four years ago. Today, she calls him to say thank you, and he’s surprised to learn that she was pregnant at the time.

1. LAURA
Script (English)
SFX: ringing
Cue music.
Admin: City of Dupont Fire Department.
Laura: Hi, I’m trying to reach John. Is he available?
Admin: Uh he is, hold on just one second.
John: This is John. How can I help you?
Laura: Hi John, my name is Laura Vaughns and I am calling you because um, I was one
of the victims in the Amtrak crash. I was on one of the first ambulances that left
there.
John: Uh, I actually remember a lady who had a pretty good shoulder injury that we
helped in and out of the ambulance. And um…
Laura: Yeah that was me. I am so happy to talk to you.
I just want to say thank you. That was probably the worst day of my life. And it was so scary. And I don’t have enough words to tell you how thankful I am. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much.
John: We really appreciate the fact that you took time to look us up and to offer thanks
to us.
AVO: First responders answer the call. Our job is to make sure they can get it.
