Synopsis:
Deforestation in Colombia is out of control. Between 2015 and 2016, it has incresed by 44%.What colombians ignore is that when a tree is cut, an habitat is lost and then animal species are endangered. Deforested Bones transforms remains of trees into an exhibition that invites to preserve life. We visited the most deforested areas of the country to pick up tree branches and pieces of real deforested wood. Building a team of artists and biologists, we worked together to transform these materials into life-size sculptures that represent the main threatened species.
Deforestation in Colombia is out of control. Between 2015 and 2016, it has incresed by 44%. Than means that more than 440.000 acres of forest and vegetation are gone in just one year, and that is an area twice the size of New York City.
What colombians ignore is that when a tree is cut, an habitat is lost and then animal species are endangered. In Colombia 9 species are very endangered with this situation: Tapir, Jaguar, Toucan, Armadillo, Frog, Titi Monkey, Spider Monkey, Sloth and Andino Parrot will dissapear if this behavior continues.
How can we give this warning to general public and key entities? How can we explain the damage on deforestation is heavily affecting animal ecosystems?
We need to raise awareness in Colombia about deforestation and promote responsible consumption on a budget of $20.000USD, building a solution that attracts people, entities and that can reach national attention.
