Describe the challenges and key objectives
While the objective was to promote Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, the challenge was to do in an intelligent way that appealed to the well-informed film buffs who frequented A:Door Film Club.
Describe the brief from the client
Do a poster to promote the film The Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock.
Describe how you arrived at the final design
The main character in The Rear Window, a photographer in a wheelchair, passes his time watching the neighbours from his apartment window. One day, he believes he has witnessed a murder.
Such a storyline lent itself to dramatic use of apartment windows.
In the design, the film title is written using objects usually seen through apartment windows. The stark black and white treatment creates suspense and gives the poster a Hitchcockian air.
Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
The poster attracted a lot of interest and film lovers had great fun deciphering the message. The show had a full house as well.
