Brief Explanation
Ballantine’s 12 wanted to convey the message that it’s the most perfectly balanced whisky on the market. In order to reach the right people and the right media, the brand decided to use product design as the vehicle.
Describe The Brief From The Client:
Ballantine’s 12 asked us to use product design to communicate their brand values, in order to gain PR and consumer activation effects.
Description Of How You Arrived At The Final Design:
We commissioned a well renowned Swedish design studio to design a product to be used when serving Ballantine’s 12, that also communicates the USP of the brand: perfect balance. They designed a pile of the objects you need to drink whisky: a coaster, a glass, an icecontainer, a water container and a spoon. It´s called ”Ballance”, a merger of the brand name and its primary benefit. The parts are made of the materials used in the production of scotch whisky: oak, copper and glass. The oak is even taken from the actual casks used in the production of Ballantine’s. Everything is handmade.
Indication Of How Successful The Outcome Was In The Market:
The product was launch during Paris fashion week and has gained more publicity than Ballantine’s could ever dream of. It is now used in select bars all over the world, demonstrating what’s so good with Ballantine’s 12. The product is also sold in certain stores, to further retell the brand story through design.
