In an attempt to drive pre-sell orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Activision-Blizzard called on Armed Mind LLC-crafted Rightful King, an e-book available on Amazon's Kindle narrative exploring the origins and motivations of the game's main villain available for free with purchase.
The novel idea garnered impressive results with Activision-Blizzard's target audience of casual and hardcore gamers aged 17+. Rightful King, which was translated into five languages, spent 10 days on Amazon's global bestseller list, ultimately reaching #1 for video game e-book and #15 across all literary genres. It continues to maintain its title of most successful short story based on a video game.
