Media placement: Calendar - Sent out B2B - 5 January 2012

Describe the brief from the client

Habari Media is Africa’s biggest online media sales house. Each year they send out a calendar that not only functions as a media rate card, but also a showcase of the rising stars in the online industry. The brief to us was to conceptualise a theme for the 2012 calendar.

Describe the challenges and key objectives

Key Objectives were to create awareness around the brand and position it as a thought leader in the industry. Habari Media have a reputation for the calendars they bring out every year so there was a reputation to uphold. Challenges included: calendars being overdone and boring, budget limitations and timing restrictions due to the need for everything to be hand illustrated.

Describe how you arrived at the final design

Based on the fact that the online industry is finally receiving the recognition it deserves as powerful advertising medium in Africa, we came up with ‘Digital Heroes’, a calendar highlighting the way Habari Media people are winning in the digital and media landscape around them.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

The outcome was extremely successful in that 500 calendars were dispatched within a week of their arrival. Clients and agencies feel honoured to showcase the calendars and they engage with them on a daily basis. Creative hubs, sites and bloggers have featured the calendar for its creative excellence. Sharing of the calendar has gone viral, both on and offline.
