Describe the brief from the client

To develop a homepage idea to drive traffic through innovation and increase the audience and reach of our online presence.

Describe the challenges and key objectives

The objectives:

– The homepage needs to act as an initial representation of our organisation and also act as a ‘hook’ to keep users on the site; something intriguing, relevant and thought provoking.

– To develop an idea to truly represent our approach to work, our ethos and working culture

– Create an opportunity to explore and share our creativity

– Consider the idea needs to both expressive and functional

The challenges:

– Turning ‘paper’ ideas into technical reality

– Ensuring the visual approach is easy for users to understand

– Managing a ‘live’ online component

Describe how you arrived at the final design

A range of ideas were developed around a creative homepage space with no boundaries; a space where we could express ourselves and potentially collaborate. We discussed ideas of an online sketchbook, and spaces for challenges to provoke debate.

The final idea of using two separate webcam feeds from our offices in London and New York was born with a plan of live events to keep the idea fresh. Overlay links on the feeds add navigation functionality to a versatile, creative online space.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

Following launch there has been an overall increase in visitor numbers and a lot of positive commentary on Twitter. Our audience embraces the live webcam events by sharing across their social networks; this creates short term interest in the site and increases unique and return visits.

There have been a number of very positive comments from within the industry. Our audience generally have a better understanding of our offer, skills and approach. A number of new business opportunities have been directly attributed to our reputation and ability being well represented through our website.
