Brief Explanation
My London Story is an iOS app that geo-locates non-fiction, long-form stories about the city. We publish 10 original stories every two months and illustrate each with original photography. The idea is that, over time, we’ll build a unique portrait of London through quality, experiential writing. The app was launched in Decemeber 2012 and has had 70,000 downloads since launch, through organic social marketing. In each story we identify the location of the narrative as specifically as possible - from bus stops to homes, street corners to pubs, familiar landmarks to quiet backwaters. Some of the stories are funny, others are heartbreaking, but we hope that all of them are innovative and enlightening and reflect the richness and uniqueness of London in a way that's authentic. My London Story reflects the history, complexity and wonder of our metropolis through narratives about the everyday and the extraordinary and reveals the city to us in new ways that allow us to see it in a new way. We’re passionate about finding new writers and giving a voice to those whose stories go untold: My London Story is as much about emerging writers as it is about established authors. The pieces can be any length and on any subject. The only fixed criteria are that the stories must have happened at a recognisable London location and that they're true. We’re also building a biannual periodical – we’ll publish the best writing from the past few months in a beautifully designed print format.
