As Russia has been kicked out of the G8, a new campaign, fronted by comedian Marcus Brigstocke, is launching to fill its empty seat with one of the worldâs poorest nations. So far only the richest and most powerful countries have been included in the G8. But the G7+1 campaign argues the case for the attendance of the poorest nations, such as Costa Rica, Bhutan, Madagascar and Moldova countries which could teach the G7 a thing or two about issues such as climate change and austerity. The G7+1 campaign, created by London ad agency Droga5, is asking people to sign an online petition and vote for whichever one of the world's eight poorest countries they would like to see join the G7. The campaign is being promoted by an online film, voiced by Marcus Brigstocke, as well as print and digital ads. People are also encouraged to share their choices on Facebook and Twitter. The petition aims to start a global conversation about why the richest nations, representing 50% of global GDP, should get to decide the future of the rest of the world. The petition will be sent to the representatives of the embassies of the G7 countries. The eight nations people are asked to vote on at www.g7plus1.org are Costa Rica, Bhutan, Madagascar, Moldova, Haiti, Botswana, Tuvalu and Mali.
