For the premiere of Jupiter Ascending, Warner Bros. partnered with Thinkingbox to produce an innovative WebGL game to support the filmâs release. By utilizing cutting-edge technology in a novel way, we created a web-based console-inspired game unlike anything else on the market. Following the narrative of the film, players interact as the main protagonist, Caine Wise, fighting a variety of ruthless enemies to save Jupiter Jones from the clutches of the Abrasax dynasty. The game concludes in dramatic fashion with the explosive rescue of Jupiter from the vicious Sargorn.
With levels of the game pulled directly from key scenes in the film, Caineâs Quest is a first-person shooter game built in WebGL, a web technology that brings hardware-accelerated 3D graphics to the browser without the need for additional software. Users have the unique option of using their mobile device as Caine's weapon by pairing it with their desktop browser via WebSockets. Once paired, users fight enemies within the site by interacting on their device. They can tap to shoot and reload, or tilt their device upwards to activate the shield. Once the player successfully rescues Jupiter Jones or succumbs to incoming attacks, a leaderboard provides end-of-level stats that can be shared via social media.
