Creative Execution
To make The Suncell Guide work we utilized databases, api:s and javascripts and made some serious calculations. The marked-up area in Google Maps shows how many square meters of solar panels Vattenfall can put on your roof while the roof-angles and cardinal directions calculate the amount of sun reaching your roof. When all is set the tool presents the amount of supplied kWh and the amount of money you’d save every year. Of course you also gets an attractive offer from Vattenfall.
This innovative tech project was launched for Sweden’s biggest generator of electricity and producer of heat, Vattenfall. And it was launched several months ahead of Google's Project Sunroof. Even more impressive was that The Suncell Guide got the Swedish people's attention without any money spent on advertising or media. People got to know about the Suncell Guide through friends and neighbours.
Result: People who went from reading about solar cells, into actually making a request for an offer increased by more than 200 %.
Insight:
Vattenfall is Sweden’s biggest generator of electricity and producer of heat. Since they are focusing on renewable power sources, the sun is ”the next big thing”.
Strategy:
In a country where the sun comes in limited edition, very few people consider solar panels to be an alternative for their power supply. We had to make more people aware that even though Sweden is a cold and dark country up in the north, it has great potential for solar energy.
Idea:
Sweden’s biggest generator of electricity and producer of heat launched The Suncell Guide in March this year. The new interactive tool makes it easy for anyone to see what solar cell panels can do for their specific house.
