Media freedom is under attack around the world. Last year alone, 81 reporters were killed worldwide for doing their jobs, while more than 250 have been jailed. Violence and harassment against journalists in general has skyrocketed. Currently, there are 58 journalists missing around the globe. In most cases, the perpetrators of these actions are never brought to justice, fostering a climate of impunity. IFEX, formerly the International Freedom of Expression Exchange, is a global network of independent non-governmental organisations working at the local, national, regional and international level to defend and promote freedom of expression as a fundamental human right. IFEX advocates for the free expression rights of all, including media workers, citizen journalists, activists, artists and scholars.
