Construction workers are at particularly high risk of accident. The brief by the Swiss Accident Prevention Centre (Suva) was to make construction company managers aware of the risks to their workers.
Postcards were sent to the construction companies’ managers from the hospital, written by real construction workers who had been injured at work.
Creative Execution
Injured construction workers send postcards from the hospital to their bosses and describe the accident and its consequences. Honestly, directly and personally.
Results and Effectiveness
A total of 9,800 postcards from a wide range of different hospitals were sent in summer/ autumn 2010. The bosses of the construction companies were shocked. They suddenly saw the individual lives behind the accident statistics.
The accident prevention website recorded + 42% more visitors. And + 45% more leaflets on risk reduction were ordered than before the campaign.
