Script In English:
MUSICVOICEOVERThe man often credited as the greatest composer in human history may also have had the most badass name. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was dropping bangers from age five when he was already highly competent on keyboard and violin, and he continued to drop said bangers until well into the 90’s (the 1790s). What is not commonly known about Wolfgang is that he expressed many of the typical traits of Autism. His repetition of hand movements (piano tremolo), abnormal facial expressions and obsessive focus are common symptoms of we now know as Asperger’s Syndrome. But the Emperor didn’t know that when Mozart completely owned Muzio Clementi in a piano battle in Vienna in 1781, which by all accounts, was lit. (Triumphant final notes of composition and massive applause) VO: So this Autism Awareness Month, remember… Before we knew what autism was, they were shaping history. Let’s not stop them now. Autism NZ. Every step together.
Synopsis:
Against classical music, a narrator describes little known, bizarre habits of Wolfgang Mozart. As he continues he reveals that these quirks enabled Mozart to compose his many great symphonies. Eventually he reveals that while Mozart may have had Autism, his unique traits made his famous work possible. The piece finishes with an appeal to the listener not to doubt people with Autism, as people with Autism have always shaped history.
Entry Summary:
Autism is a disability that affects 1 in 80 people worldwide. Autism encompasses a wide spectrum of abilities, causing many people to underestimate the capabilities of people with Autism. Because of this, over 90% of Autistics have difficulty finding employment and often feel discriminated against because of their Autism. We needed to make people realise that the typical habits of Autism, such as extreme focus, obsession and attention to detail can be an advantage.
