SFX: Phone ringing.
WOMAN: Hello.
KATHY: Hi. Is Gary Burke in?
WOMAN: No, I’m sorry, he’s not.
KATHY: Oh. It’s Kathy calling from Irving’s Cruisin’ to Win contest. Are you Gary’s wife?
WOMAN: No, I’m his sister, Patsy.
KATHY: Oh, hi Patsy. I understand Gary was the first runner-up in the Missed Blueberry Pageant.
WOMAN: Yeah.
KATHY: Okay. Can you explain this pageant to me a little bit?
WOMAN: Okay. Basically males dress up in evening gown…
KATHY: A ha…
WOMAN: And probably a bathing suit.
KATHY: Are these male bathing suits or are we talking bikinis?
WOMAN: Whatever.
KATHY: Ah ha. And Gary was wearing?
WOMAN: A bikini.
KATHY: Ah, I thought so.
WOMAN: Yeah.
KATHY: Did he have a waxing that day?
WOMAN: No.
KATHY: Lucky Gary.
KATHY: And even though he was only a 1st runner-up here’s a contest where he can win big because Irving’s Cruisin’ to Win is back. There are three ways to win. And none involve hair removal. Instant win, collect to win, and fill out a ballot to win with big prizes like chips, gum, Lotto 649 tickets, and Harleys and a Hummer.
KATHY: Patsy, was this Gary’s first time in a bikini?
WOMAN: No.
KATHY: Gotcha.
KATHY: Cruise in to Irving and Cruisin’ to Win. No purchase necessary. See in store for details.
Brief Explanation
Every summer, Irving Oil launches a contest called Cruisin’ To Win for its chain of convenience stores. Our spokesperson (Kathy), calls real people who have almost made it big but didn’t quite get there – whether it’s a beauty contest, a pumpkin growing contest or even a karaoke contest. Kathy encourages them and makes them feel better by turning their attention to the Cruisin’ To Win contest and their potential to finally WIN BIG. Of course, when she says WIN BIG, she means winning chips, water, pop, gum, candy bars – even though the big prizes are Hummers, DVD players, Harleys, etc.
