English Description

Touching Stories is an exploration into the future of interactive storytelling on the iPad. Four unique stories were created and then packaged together and distributed as an App. Each experimenting with live-action storytelling that was designed specifically to take advantage of the unique, interactive, iPad features such as multi-touch, in-video internet browsing and the accelerometer. From switching between perspectives, revealing inner monologues, and/or altering the story, these interactive, live-action short stories are intended to open up dialogue around the future of storytelling on multi-touch devices such as the iPad.

“Sarah and Jerry” is a playful take on a few characters in a house. The twist: Sarah and Jerry are now controlled by the iPad user.

Touch the painting on the wall to hear what the portrait has to say, shake your iPad and Sarah falls off the couch, swipe the toilet and Jerry gets a dose of hot water in the shower.

Think Truman Show, but you are the one pulling the strings.

Ultimately, “Sarah and Jerry” figure out the joke is on them and decide to get their revenge by smashing the user’s iPad screen.

In “All Ends, Ends All,”, the user wakes up in the back of a trunk. Several different storyline variations are presented in this interactive adventure as the user explores and tries to figure out what has happened.

Shake your iPad to run from guys shooting at you. Dial different phone numbers in the interactive phone booth for clues. Use the accelerometer to switch between dual perspectives in real-time between the victim and bad guy as they have a final dual in the climax scene.

The story “The Most Interesting Couple in Britain” takes a completely different approach. It plays out on a “local” theater stage and features a married couple that has grown so comfortable and “bored” in their relationship that they no longer have anything to say to each other.

iPad interactions include menu options where the user can view the inner monologue of Stanley, Maureen and “the dog.” And the “?” button links to some unexpected and unusual web browsing directly inside of the video experience.

Each story is unique and showcases different interactive storytelling features.
