English Description

This commercial documents a demonstration followed by the public live and in real time via video streaming and Twitter in which a robot walks 500 kilometers from Tokyo to Kyoto on rechargeable batteries.

Powered by rechargeable batteries, our robot would walk the 500 kilometer historic Tokkaido road from Tokyo to Kyoto. The robot had to cover 10 kilometers per day on just one recharge. The route includes 18 kilometers of steep mountain passes. Taking the risk that the batteries might fail, we announced the route and opened it to the public, and streamed the video live, welcoming comments via Twitter.

We gathered over 7,000 Twitter followers and received over 35,00 tweets. The video stream attracted over 85,000 viewers.
