Amsterdam-based creative agency Fitzroy introduces Scandal Candles: foul-smelling scented candles that remind the world of different corporate scandals.
The first batch contains handmade candles that reek of children’s sweat, plastic soup, and cigarette fumes. This way, the creators want to draw attention to problems that moved to the background of our collective memory.
Founder Jur Baart explains: “Child labor, the overuse of cheap plastics and an industry that knowingly keeps people addicted. Although these aren’t new problems, we shouldn’t get desensitized to them. Our candles are meant to put these issues back under people’s noses.”
The candles are sold through an online gift shop. With every purchase, the buyer supports a cause dedicated to solving one of these specific problems.
