Campaign Summary
The United States has been a leader in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), but the recent decline in student interest and US rankings have been serious. As a company rooted in invention and founded by Thomas Edison, GE can motivate and inspire students to excel in STEM-focused subjects. Where do great ideas come from? Our research pointed toward ideas developing late at night, where a person would switch gears to thinking about solving the world’s problems. We identified the incoming Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon – as entertaining a more geeky side. During his tenure as Late Show host, he enjoyed exploring innovations in science technology and invention - and he was a patented holding inventor. In each Fallonventions segment, Jimmy invites kid inventors (kidventors) to demonstrate their inventions alongside his own wild ideas. In typical Jimmy fashion, the inventions are both humorous (Pizza Decrustifier) and genius (iPhone heart rate monitor); the segments bring GE's creative imagination, fascination with technology, and Jimmy’s inner geekiness to life. To reward the future minds of industry, GE awards each of the inventors with five thousand dollars to continue their education, and remind Americans that good ideas can come from anywhere.
