Few know that, upon landing at the Cape of Good Hope, slaves were stripped of everything even their names. As property, many were renamed after the calendar month in which they arrived. Tragically, the history of South African slavery has been all but forgotten. Created in partnership with the Iziko Slave Lodge Museum in Cape Town, and with the support of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu. The Slave Calendar holds the portraiture and true stories of hope as told by the living descendants of those who had their first-ever possession taken from them: their names.
