English Description

Panasonic has been planting trees worldwide for eight years in a campaign known as "One product, one tree". In Japan, the company has been donating cherry trees to be planted in kindergartens and elementary schools. The cherry tree has a very special significance in Japan. Graduation ceremonies at the end of March and entrance ceremonies for those entering schools and companies come at the beginning of April, all accompanied by the blossoming of the cherry trees. The cherry tree has long been represented in Japanese art and is widely beloved in Japan. Many of the kindergartens that received Panasonic cherry trees in the Tohoku region were damaged or destroyed by the tsunami. The remains of Hisanohama No. 1 Kindergarten had to be destroyed after the disaster, but when one of the cherry trees in its garden bloomed, the local children and their teachers gained new hope. When Hisanohama No. 1 Kindergarten requested another tree in 2012, Panasonic used the messages of encouragement from around the world received through their global website to make a cherry tree tapestry and present it as a poster to the kindergarten along with their new tree.
