Synopsis:
Tech entertainment company Skyrocket tapped Hollywood ad agency Battery to create “Couch,” a spot released today for the toy company’s head-to-head battlefield game, Recoil. In a departure from played out toy tropes, Battery brings glowering anti-hero Col. Striker to the front yards of families everywhere played by the baddest of badasses, Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Sin City).
As he leans on a tree in the idyllic suburbs, Madsen, in full body armor with knife in hand, describes a couch as war cover. Real life merges with fantasy and as the sofa is struck by an explosive blast and two teen boys run to safety through the peaceful neighborhood-turned combat zone.
Battery’s goal was to position Recoil as the must-have competitive gaming experience. Their target imagines themselves as heroes of their own worlds, which are made real by Recoil’s immersive, GPS enabled battlefield.
This spot comes after Battery’s recent spot, “No Hat Hair,” for Skyrocket’s SkyViper that helped the toy company redefine the drone category. In addition Battery’s past work with Lego Dimensions empowered the power of play through an experiential, TV, and online campaign with the tagline “You’re gonna need a bigger imagination.”
